BROCK - Every two years the UIL realigns the classifications and districts. With that coming soon, we hear a familiar story. “Brock is moving up.” However, now it isn’t speculation. As it stands right now, they are about 100 kids over the cutoff numbers from the last realignment.

Brock knows, and has been preparing for the jump from 3A to 4A for some time now. Last year in both boys and girls basketball they stacked their non-district schedule with 4A and even some 5A-6A schools. Brock’s Basketball boys fared pretty well and went 5-4 against 4A teams, and beat 5A Marshall. Their girls program might have been even more successful.  Going 3-2 against 4A schools, and 4-0 when playing 5A and 6A schools.

When the Eagles move up at this next realignment they will most likely play in 4A-District 6 with the likes of Glen Rose, Brownwood, Graham, Stephenville, and Mineral Wells. The likelihood of this shifting the surrounding  districts is low because there is currently only five teams within the district. 

All of this leads us to two questions:

Brock leaving 3A Region 1 will certainly leave a void, but who fills it? Do the Peaster Greyhounds make the jump to be a regional contender again? Will Jay Lusk and the Shallowater Mustangs punch their ticket to San Antonio for the first time since the tournament was held in Austin? 

On the 4A side of things, does Brock follow the path of schools like Argyle and continue to have massive successes despite moving up classifications year after year? Or does the unlikely happen and they meet their match in 4A? 

Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure. The Brock Eagles won’t be in 3A much longer.
