Small town high school athletics are able to thrive because of the multi-sport athlete. The STBA Multi-Sport Athlete of The Year Awards are to honor those who not only represent their school in basketball, but bring glory to the town in multiple sports.
2023-2024 BOYS WINNERS
Grayson Rigdon, a Junior at Benjamin High School, dominates both on the court and on the field. As the leading scorer in the nation with 47.6 points per game, he showcases his talent in basketball while also excelling in football and track. Rigdon's athletic prowess earned him numerous accolades, including the 2023 Football State Champion title, 2023 Football Player of the Year award, and recognition as a Mr. Texas Football finalist. Additionally, he demonstrated his versatility in track, placing 5th in the UIL State Triple Jump and 4th in the 4x200 relay.
Kaden Kovar, a senior from Thorndale High School, showcases exceptional talent on the basketball court and baseball diamond. As the District 27-2A MVP in basketball, he averaged 17.1 ppg, 4.3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.5 steals. He's earned accolades such as TABC All-Region, All-State, and All-Star Game selection. His impressive stats include 110 made 3-pointers at a 40% success rate from beyond the arc. In baseball, Kaden's skill at the plate earned him the 27-2A Offensive Player of the Year title. Despite a setback with a hip injury during football season, Kaden's determination and skill shine through in his athletic achievements, making him a standout player in multiple sports.
Eric Cisneros, a sophomore sensation from Palmer High School, excels across multiple sports with impressive stats. On the football field, he shines as the Offensive MVP. In basketball he racked up 17 points per game and contributed 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals per game. In baseball, Eric dominates as a pitcher, earning 1st Team All-District honors. His prowess extends to the track, where he earned a bronze medal at the regional meet. With talent and versatility, Eric proves himself as a standout athlete, leaving a lasting impact in football, basketball, baseball, and track.
Julio Morales, a senior from Ferris High School, is a standout athlete both on the basketball court and in track and field. With impressive stats of 17.9 points per game, 6 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game, he proves his versatility and skill in basketball. In track, Julio shines as the District High Jump Champion and Area High Jump Champion, showcasing his athleticism and determination. He's also qualified for the regional competition in 2023 and the area competition in 2024.
2023-2024 GIRLS WINNERS
Joely Jenkins, a junior at Neches High School, excels across multiple sports with impressive achievements. In volleyball, she's a three-time TGCA All-State player and received THSCA Super Elite honors. As a setter, Joely contributed to her team's success with over 1,056 assists and 500 career digs. In basketball, she's a three-time state semifinalist and reached 1,000 career points this season. Joely also shines in softball, maintaining a perfect fielding percentage and leading her team to state qualifiers. Additionally, she's a consistent performer in cross country, track, and tennis.
Summer Sodek, a sophomore at Flatonia High School, excels in basketball, volleyball, and track. Averaging 24 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals per game in basketball, she has earned All-State and All-Region honors from TABC and TGCA as a freshman and sophomore. She is the District 28-AA MVP as a sophomore and Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman, also earning accolades such as Victoria Advocate Journal Player of the Year. In volleyball, Summer was District Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and 1st Team All-District as a sophomore. Additionally, she qualified for regionals in the 400 meters and long jump in track, cementing her status as an all-around athlete.
Calyssa Sevier, a senior at Lytle High School, is a remarkable multi-sport athlete. In basketball, she averages 26.8 points, 8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 6.6 steals per game, amassing 3,235 career points. She is a unanimous District MVP, TGCA and TABC All-Region, TGCA and TABC All-State, and Academic All-State TABC and TGCA. She also earned spots on the THSCA Super Elite Team and multiple all-star games. Calyssa led her team to back-to-back regional appearances and an area championship. In softball, she's an All-District 1st Team and Academic All-State honoree. In track, she qualified for regionals and placed 5th at state in the 400 meters.
Ally Ihler, a junior from Salado High, is a multi-talented athlete excelling in basketball, cross country, track, and swimming. Averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal per game, she reached the milestone of 1,000 career points this year and has been 1st Team All-District every season. In swimming, Allie has broken numerous records. Her achievements in cross country and track further highlight her exceptional athletic prowess, making her a standout performer in every discipline she undertakes.
