MARTINS MILL HIGH SCHOOL – Following a disappointing end to a stellar previous season, the Martins Mill Mustangs entered the 2024-2025 campaign with very high expectations. With a strong returning roster, they enter the year ranked as 2A's top rated #STBA team. This page chronicles their journey throughout the season as they strive for UIL State Championship glory.
11/8/2024 – The Mustangs opened their season against Tyler HEAT, securing a 67-57 victory. This win sets a positive tone for the games ahead. Tyler HEAT is a good squad that will make some noise this year.
11/12/2024 – Traveling to North Hopkins, Martins Mill showcased their offensive prowess with an 89-42 win. The Mustangs exploded in the first quarter scoring 28 points in the first 8 minutes of the game. North Hopkins did not have much of an answer to The Mill's multiple offensive options, they did not hold them under 18 points in any quarter.
11/16/2024 – Hosting Jacksonville, the Mustangs continued their winning streak with a 72-47 victory, demonstrating consistent performance on both ends of the court.
11/19/2024 – In an away game against Sabine, Martins Mill's defense was impenetrable, leading to a commanding 93-32 win.
11/21/2024: Faced Pine Tree, winning 70-35. #0 Schneider lead all scorers with 18 points, with Jak Kinder right behind him with an exciting 16 points - 12 of these points were from behind the three point line.
11/22/2024: Competed against Grace Community and Harleton, securing wins with scores of 75-49 and 77-19, respectively. But the story here is #11 Sr. Jak Kinder... This kid can flat out SHOOT. He was 9/15 from three in the first game of the day. Yes you read that right. He hit 9 threes against Grace Community finishing with 33 points.
11/23/2024: The Mill ends the tournament with a 64-53 victory over Chapel Hill. This is a very impressive win, and an even more impressive performance by #0 Schneider. He had 27 points off of 15 FGA. 5 threes made and 7 taken. He also secured 8 rebounds.
11/26/2024 – The Mustangs faced Bishop Gorman at home, emerging victorious with an 81-63 scoreline, further solidifying their dominance.
12/3/2024 – An away game against Bullard resulted in a 57-34 win, with the Mustangs' defense playing a crucial role.
12/10/2024 – Hosting Commerce, Martins Mill secured a 72-37 victory, with both starters and bench players contributing significantly. Commerce is a good team and Martins Mill exposed them. I genuinely think that Commerce can make some noise in the playoffs this year - but not if they have to play anyone like Martins Mill.
12/12/2024 – In a matchup against Big Sandy, the Mustangs dominated with an 87-33 win, showcasing their offensive depth.
12/17/2024 - #STBA RIVALRY ALERT! Martins Mill takes down rival LaPoynor 70-51. LaPoynor guard, and coaches kid, Cort Reid leads all scorers with 23 points but it was not enough to overcome The Mill. #0 Schneider did not play in this game as Jak Kinder carried the load with 20 points.
12/25/2024 - 2A STBA Christmas Rankings #1 Martins Mill. No surprises here—Martins Mill takes the top spot. This perennial powerhouse remains undefeated and is fueled by last season’s disappointment. Few teams have come close to challenging the Mustangs, and it’s not due to a weak schedule—they’re simply that good. It’s no wonder they’ve been a favorite for quite some time.
12/27/2024 - The Mill suffered their first loss of the year at the hands of the #STBA number 2 ranked 3A team 61-59. Another game where #0 Schneider did not play. Jak Kinder had another stellar offensive game pumping in 7 three pointers off of 13 attempts. He finished the game with 26 points.
2/7/2025 - Another rivalry game here against the Frankston Indians. #0 Archer Schneider appeared in this game, but had limited minutes only scoring 2 points. Jak Kinder again carried the load scoring 23 points as the Mustangs coasted to a 64-45 victory.
2/17/2025 - PLAYOFF BASKETBALL IS HERE FOR EVERYONE! Martins Mill plays a beat up Latexo team. This is the first time Latexo has made the playoffs in 20 years. They have been dealing with some injury problems the entire season but their stud, Dakota Sherley is not satisfied with just making the playoffs - he wants to take down The Mill. Latexo showed some heart and fight in this game. 13 point game at the half, Martins Mill shot the ball abnormally poor in the first half but bounced back in the second half.
2/21/2025 - Martins Mill plays the fighting Italy Gladiators. Clash of styles here as Italy will look to make this game ugly... Which is my kind of game. Gladiators gave it their all playing hard and competing on the glass. Coach Jenkins from Martins Mill said, "The Italy Gladiators play as hard as any team we faced all year." and I think we all agree. Still this was not enough to pull off an upset. The Gladiators did a great job running The Mill off the line giving up only 4 three pointers all game. Archer Schneider had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. While Ryder Marsh had 18, 11, and 4 blocks. Jak Kinder pumped in 12 points making 3/5 from behind the arc.
2/21/2025 - One for the #STBA History books tonight. Jak Kinder hit 3 three pointers in their second round game against Coach Fossett and the Gladiators, which if you have been paying attention to Jak's career is a pretty normal game for him. BUT THIS KID JUST BROKE THE NATIONAL RECORD FOR MOST THREES MADE IN A HIGH SCHOOL CAREER WITH 619 AND COUNTING. He is also shooting 46% from three over his four year career.
2/25/2025 - Gary has a SQUAD this year. Forced the Mill to shorten the bench for this game, and had a legitimate shot to take down the Mustangs here in the third round. Coach Jenkins from Martins Mill said, "Most physical game we have played all year." Archer Schneider looked like he was back and ready to play today scoring 18 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Jake Kinder lead the Stangs in scoring with 20 points going 3/8 from 3.
2/28/2025 - The Grapeland Sandies are here to take down the favorite to win it all. They have done nothing but win all year. They run a very post centric offense trying to get paint touches off the post entry most of the time, we will see how Martins Mill's interior game holds up against the Sandies. WOW WOW WOW. This game lived up to all the hype and then some! A true #STBA classic playoff game! The Mustangs pull of the victory in double overtime. Leading 26-17 at halftime the Sandies came roaring back outscoring the Mustangs 24-16 in the second half forcing the first overtime. Both teams then scored two points in the first overtime. In the second overtime Martins Mill proved to be too much for Grapeland being outscored 10-1 in the final four minutes of the game.
3/4/2025 - The Mill plays Goldthwaite at China Spring High School to see who punches their ticket to the Dome in San Antonio. If you would like to hear more about this game - click here!
