3/6 vs. Ira, W 58-38 (Playoff Game)
The Jayton Jaybirds come out onto the United Supermarkets Arena court in their black uniforms, and Ira is in white. #00 Tucker Scott for Jayton has some fancy footwork at the rim to score the first bucket of the game on their first possession. Colt Gentry gets a quick steal and in transition they attempt to throw him a lob, they are unable to convert, but a few possesisons late they find him all alone in the corner for three. Pushing the score to 11-4. At the end of one, the Jaybirds lead 19-11, turnovers have killed Ira so far - seemingly all of them turning into transition buckets for Jayton. Sean Stanaland had a couple of putbacks off of offensive rebounds to push the lead to 27-12. Ira looked to feed the ball inside to their post players to attempt to silence the run that the Jaybirds have gone on. At the half Jayton leads by sixteen 36-20. Ira and Jayton continued their battle in the United Supermarkets Arena, and at the end of the third quarter the score was 47-32. After and Ira run, Jayton responded with a run of their own, capping it off was Colt Gentry with a three from the top of the key to push the lead back over double digits. Sean Stanaland with a big play of his own taking a charge in transition to heighten the momentum. After that twenty point victory the Jayton Jaybirds are on their way to the state semifinals!
3/9 vs. Whitharral, W 41-36 (Playoff Game)
Big defensive possesion at about the mid-way point of the first quarter, with the Jaybirds down 6-4 Sean Stanaland gets his hand on a deflection in the lane, a loose ball occurs, and he is the first on the floor to secure it and was able to pass it out to a teammate. With nothing coming from that extra possession, and their next shot leading to a fast break for Whitharrl, the score pushed to 8-4. Jayton's offense just looks a little out of sorts. Colt Gentry, usually a steady and heavy contributor started the first quarter off slow. Jayton goes into the second quarter 13-7. Gentry quickly turns it on with back to back buckets, with a steal and a rebound in between pulling the game closer. At the end of the first half, we have a defensive battle with Whitharrl taking a one point lead 17-16. Very impressed with Jayton's ball movement, the ball never sticks with one guy, it is always on the move. Heavy weight battle here, back in forth contest, seems like everytime someone makes a great play, the other team matches it. At the end of the third quarter, Jayton was able to make a push to get out ahead 30-26. With three minutes left, Jayton takes advantage of the fact that Texas has no shot clock and attempts to pull Whitharral out of their zone, wasting time and lowering the percentage chance of a comeback. Early game rebounds from Whitharrl really kept them in the game, and at times put them out ahead, but down the stretch Sean Stanaland and Colt Gentry cleaned up the glass and really earned the win for the Jaybirds.
