HEARNE HIGH SCHOOL – As Coach Gonzales takes over the boys program at his Alma Mater we are reminded of the season he had just two short seasons ago with the girls program at Hearne. Making it to the State Semifinal. We wonder if he can muster up some similar success with the boys program.
11/30 @ Hempstead – W 53-28
Hearne opened the season with a strong defensive showing, limiting Hempstead to just 28 points throughout the game. The Eagles’ offense also showcased balance, with multiple players contributing both inside and on the perimeter. This early win established Hearne’s identity as a defensive powerhouse that can control the pace and dictate tempo.
12/3 @ Thrall – W 65-30
Another dominant defensive performance by Hearne helped them secure an easy win against Thrall. The Eagles forced turnovers early and often, creating fast-break opportunities that fueled their offensive attack. With a comfortable lead throughout, they continued to show depth and efficient ball movement on both sides of the floor.
12/5 vs Aggieland HomeSchool – L 63-57
In a tough battle, Hearne fell short despite keeping the game close throughout. Aggieland’s sharp shooting and timely baskets in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference. Hearne’s offense struggled with consistency in key moments, but their defensive effort was strong, showing that they can compete with tough opponents.
12/5 vs O'Connell – L 77-66
Playing back-to-back games, Hearne could not fully recover after a close first half, eventually falling to O'Connell. Despite a strong showing from their offensive players, the Eagles couldn’t contain O'Connell’s shooting from beyond the arc. Fatigue was a factor, but Hearne learned the importance of maintaining energy and focus throughout a full game.
12/6 vs East Bernard – W 65-50
Hearne bounced back from their earlier losses with a solid win over East Bernard, using defense to fuel their offense. The Eagles’ full-court pressure stifled East Bernard’s attempts to settle into a rhythm. With a strong second-half performance, Hearne pulled away, demonstrating their ability to adjust after tough losses.
12/7 vs Hempstead – W 65-15
This game was a one-sided affair from the beginning, with Hearne absolutely stifling Hempstead on both ends. Their defense forced turnovers at will, which led to easy points in transition. By halftime, the game was out of reach, and Hearne’s bench had a chance to contribute to the overwhelming victory.
12/10 vs Marlin – W 69-46
Hearne put together one of their most complete performances, with solid play on both ends of the floor. Their defense was aggressive, limiting Marlin’s offensive options, while the offense capitalized on quick ball movement and high shooting percentages. The Eagles’ control of the game was never in doubt as they cruised to a comfortable win.
12/12 vs Giddings – W 57-31
Defensive pressure was the key for Hearne, as they suffocated Giddings’ attempts to generate offense. The Eagles also used their transition game effectively, turning turnovers into quick scores. As the game progressed, Hearne built a commanding lead that they never relinquished.
12/12 vs Lexington – W 62-54
In a tight contest, Hearne showed resilience and composure, especially in the fourth quarter. Their defense locked down Lexington in crucial moments, while their offense found ways to execute efficiently in the second half. It was another example of Hearne’s ability to close out tough games.
12/14 vs Navarro – W 70-62
In a thrilling matchup, Hearne's offense came alive as they executed a fast-paced game plan that Navarro could not keep up with. Their defense continued to be stout, with timely steals and blocks that turned the game in their favor. Despite Navarro’s efforts to rally, Hearne was able to hold off their comeback attempts and secure a vital win.
12/20 vs Burton – W 51-33
Hearne continued their strong defensive play, holding Burton to just 33 points and controlling the game from the start. The offense was efficient, finding good looks while maintaining control of the tempo. This victory showed Hearne’s ability to stifle teams and manage leads comfortably.
12/27 vs Rogers – W 54-36
Coming off a break, Hearne looked sharp as they dispatched Rogers with solid defense and balanced scoring. Their ability to disrupt Rogers’ offense and create opportunities in transition played a key role in their success. The win was another example of Hearne’s defensive dominance and offensive execution.
12/28 vs C.H. Yoe – W 58-31
Hearne displayed their depth and defensive capabilities in an easy win over C.H. Yoe. The team’s constant ball pressure and aggressive rebounding kept C.H. Yoe from finding any rhythm offensively. With the game under control early, the Eagles were able to rest their starters and still maintain a solid lead.
12/31 @ Snook – W 59-38
Hearne closed out the year with another dominating performance, suffocating Snook’s offense with intense full-court pressure. The Eagles capitalized on turnovers, scoring easy fast-break points, which quickly put the game out of Snook’s reach. This was a complete team effort, with every player contributing to the blowout victory.
1/3 vs Chaparral – L 64-40
In a tough matchup, Hearne struggled to contain Chaparral’s offensive firepower, falling short in the second half. Despite staying within striking distance early, Hearne’s offense struggled with efficiency, especially in the face of Chaparral’s defensive intensity. The loss exposed areas for improvement in offensive execution under pressure.
1/7 vs Iola – W 63-53
Hearne fought off a strong challenge from Iola, using their defense to keep Iola from gaining momentum. The Eagles executed well offensively, with balanced scoring and smart ball movement to secure the win. It was a gritty performance, as Hearne maintained their composure down the stretch to hold off Iola’s attempts to close the gap.
1/10 @ Bremond – W 68-63
In a high-energy game, Hearne pulled out a crucial road win against Bremond in a back-and-forth contest. 1/14 @ Mumford – W 57-52

1/17 vs Somerville – W 89-47
Hearne delivered one of their most impressive performances of the season in a dominant win over Somerville. The Eagles were relentless, controlling the game with both a fast-paced offense and a stifling defense that shut down Somerville’s attempts to score. This win showcased Hearne’s ability to overwhelm an opponent with both scoring depth and defensive pressure.
1/23 @ Burton – W 76-29
Another commanding victory for Hearne, as they overwhelmed Burton from the opening tip. Their defense was suffocating, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy fast-break points. Burton could never find an offensive rhythm, and Hearne cruised to a blowout win behind their efficient team play.
1/24 vs Snook – W 70-33
Hearne dominated from start to finish, using their defensive intensity and ball movement to break Snook’s defense down. The Eagles’ offense was in sync, and Snook had no answer for the constant pressure they faced. With the win well in hand, Hearne continued to show their depth by rotating players throughout the game.
1/31 @ Iola – W 86-46
In a dominating road performance, Hearne blew past Iola with a balanced offensive attack and a relentless defense. The Eagles’ ability to shoot efficiently and play lockdown defense led to an overwhelming victory. The team displayed their ability to adjust to different opponents, showing growth in their versatility.
2/4 vs Bremond – W 53-42
A gritty win for Hearne, as they held off a tough Bremond team that refused to back down. The Eagles’ defense remained solid throughout, and they were able to control the tempo with a methodical offensive game plan. Hearne’s ability to close out a game in a close contest showed their maturity and composure.
2/7 vs Mumford – L 46-38
Hearne couldn’t overcome Mumford’s defensive pressure, which limited their scoring opportunities. Despite a strong effort from their key players, the Eagles struggled to find consistent offense, especially against Mumford’s tight defense. The loss served as a reminder of the importance of executing offensively in tight games.
2/11 @ Somerville – W 71-42
In a dominant performance on the road, Hearne crushed Somerville with their defensive pressure and fast-paced offense. The Eagles were able to build a large lead early, and their relentless defense stifled any attempt Somerville made to claw back into the game. This victory underscored Hearne’s ability to perform in hostile environments and take control of the game.
2/18 vs Sabine Pass – W 62-29
Hearne showed no mercy in their matchup against Sabine Pass, suffocating them defensively while maintaining a high-scoring offensive output. The Eagles’ transition game was on full display, creating easy opportunities after turnovers. With a large lead early on, Hearne was able to rest their starters and still maintain control throughout the game.
2/20 vs Flatonia – W 78-46
Another dominant victory for Hearne as they outmatched Flatonia in every aspect of the game. Their defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and converting them into quick points. The Eagles’ offense was efficient, and their deep bench contributed heavily, making it another team effort in the blowout win.
2/25 vs Santa Maria – W 75-47
Hearne continued their dominant stretch, dispatching Santa Maria with a balanced offensive attack and aggressive defense. The Eagles’ shooting was sharp, and their defense never allowed Santa Maria to gain any momentum. With this win, Hearne showed that they could execute at a high level both offensively and defensively.
2/28 vs Port Aransas – W 52-47
In a tight contest, Hearne managed to hold off a strong challenge from Port Aransas. Their defense in the final moments was key to securing the win, with crucial stops in the closing minutes. Despite not playing their best offensive game, Hearne showed resilience and the ability to win close games when it mattered most.
3/3 vs Marlin – W 58-48
Hearne battled with the best of them tonight. After one full quarter, the Eagles were up 15-7. They did a great job of containing some of Marlin's quick guards, making them settle for perimeter shots. They also did a great job of attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line, leading at one point 20-9 before Marlin went on the first of many runs. At the end of two quarters, the Eagles were up 29-20.
Coming out of the half, it was all Bulldog ball. They were relentless on defense, forcing turnover after turnover. The momentum of the game had completely shifted toward the Bulldogs, and they were feeling it. From being down 9 at halftime to up one, 33-32, in the blink of an eye. The gym erupted on Marlin's shot when they got a steal and a fast-break layup to go up 35-32. At the end of the third quarter, we had a tied ball game—locked at 39—but it didn’t stay that way for long. Marlin came out of the quarter break ready to drop the hammer on Hearne. They quickly pushed the lead up to 46-39, prompting Coach G to call a timeout.
After a few timeouts, Hearne responded with a three-pointer and a great move down low for an easy bucket. They quickly took back the lead, 49-48, after some clutch free throws. Hearne called a timeout with 2:11 left. The air shortly after the Hearne timeout left the building, with the Hearne faithful getting loud with their chants of "Uh Oh Uh Oh HT!" The Hearne Eagles proved to be too much for the Bulldogs for the second time this year, and with this win, they get a chance to prove they are the best team in the state.
